Things I've seen it called: Machete, cleaver, hatchet, sharp pointy object (ok not really but isn't it one?), oversized knife (same on this one)

Could always call it a hatchet-cleaver thing. Wikipedia says it's a cleaver. I think it said somewhere in the anime it was a hatchet.
